BE AWARE: FLAG SMUT IS ADAPTING AND IS A DANGER TO YOUR YIELDS!
- Flag smut, for the first time since the 1930's, has been reported in Kansas.
- Flag smut is a fungal disease of wheat that can cause your grain to be unmarketable.
- There is no current knowledge of resistance right now.
- Be sure to use good management practices such as avoiding co-mingling of infected grain with clean grain, harvesting clean grain first, marketing infected grain separately in feed or domestic milling operations, clean harvesting and transport equipment and storage facilities after handling infected grain, and most importantly use fungicide treated seed.
